Groot Constantia Merlot 2022 is a sophisticated expression of one of South Africa’s oldest and most historic wine estates, established in 1685.
This Merlot captures the elegance and depth that define Constantia’s cool-climate reds, combining ripe fruit concentration with refined structure and balance.
It reflects the estate’s long-standing commitment to quality and traditional winemaking techniques, harmonising modern precision with centuries-old heritage.

Production Notes
Grapes are sourced from the estate’s decomposed granite soils on the slopes of Table Mountain. After hand-harvesting and gentle crushing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs for colour and tannin extraction. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrel and matures for 14 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, 35% of which are new.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour. Aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, and cherry mingle with notes of cocoa, cedar, and a touch of mint. The palate is plush and rounded, with layers of dark fruit, mocha, and spice, supported by fine tannins and a silky texture. The finish is long, elegant, and subtly earthy, showing the cool-climate finesse of Constantia.
Food Pairings
Ideal with roasted duck, lamb chops, beef bourguignon, or mushroom risotto. Pairs beautifully with mature cheeses and rich tomato-based pasta dishes.

We offer free next-day delivery on all UK Mainland orders over £150. For orders under £150, a delivery fee of £10 applies. We also deliver to Northern Ireland, the Highlands, Scottish Isles, and the Scilly Isles for £12, and to the Isle of Man for £20. Orders are dispatched Wednesday to Friday, with cheese orders specifically dispatched on Wednesday and Thursday.
Yes, we offer a Click & Collect service. Orders will be ready for collection one hour after placing the order. You can collect from our shop in Bromley Cross, Bolton, Wednesday to Sunday during our opening hours (Finchley Wines).
You can return items within 30 days of purchase if they are unused and in the same condition as received, including original packaging. However, certain items like perishable goods and gift cards are non-returnable. Refunds will be processed once the returned item is inspected and approved.
